You can immediately apply what you’ve learned by translating the fun exercises at latij end of each lesson. Being totally ignorant of a language which was formerly so central to Western education bothered me; I wanted to sample at least the flavor of this ancient tongue.
It would be very wifh, I think, to criticize this book, given both the ease of use and the quality of the grammar explanations you can very easily learn a respectable amount of English grammar from this book too and the level this book is aimed at.
It is only an introduction to Latin and you will need a follow-up course, but he gives ideas for this on his website; he also provides ltin MP3 files for correct Church and classical pronunciation. For a native English speaker, it is very difficult to understand the conjugation of nouns and verbs in other languages. For its purpose, a basic introduction to Latin, I found this to be a very helpful volume. Younger students will likely need assistance. He quite literally teaches Latin one word at a time; after each word is defined, he gives the student ten sentences to translate.
